Posted in: CMT Group Blog
For hospitals all around the country, including Great Ormond Street Hospital, the Coronavirus pandemic presented huge challenges and a great deal of risk. The effects of Covid-19 on many of the population has put huge demand on NHS services and institutions. With a total of 4.6million confirmed cases and with at least 128,000 deaths, we can only begin to imagine the strain this left our health service and all of its incredible staff under. Great Ormond Street Hospital

Great Ormond Street Hospital has been around for 170 years, providing care for children in the heart of London. It is the UK’s largest centre for child heart surgery, and has a rich history of being at the forefront of medical advancement since it opened its doors in 1852. Today, the hospital cares for 600 children every day. They provide medical attention and treatment with the smiles and tenderness those children need to feel comfortable in what can often be a very scary circumstance. Their world leading care has made them cherished institution within the NHS and the country.

Supporting their incredible work

At CMT, we have a long-standing history of supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital. The on-set of the coronavirus pandemic meant that our support was more important, both to them and us, than ever. Back in November, following the launch of our UK-based mask manufacturing, we donated 40,000 surgical masks to Great Ormond Street Hospital to help support their amazing and ongoing efforts in the face of unprecedented struggle. Among the many hardships of 2020 was a significant shortage of PPE. The country was not prepared for the impacts of the coronavirus. The resulting lack of protective equipment and supplies added insult to already painful injury. This shortage motivated our decision to begin the manufacturing of masks here in the UK, helping to eliminate the shortages and minimise dependency on unreliable imports. Donations like the 40,000 masks given to Great Ormond Street can often seem like a drop in the ocean compared to the devastation that the pandemic has had on our NHS and on many of our loved one. Nonetheless, our contribution was a building block in the construction of the countries and the NHS’ defence against the pandemic. Similarly, we donated a number of masks to Kent Air Ambulance service. With the operation of air ambulances costing as much as they do, and being as vital as they are, it's services like this that deserve as much extra support as possible. The incredible work that Great Ormond Street Hospital and hospitals all around the country do, not just in the midst of a pandemic but every day, is something to be celebrated and supported wherever possible. We applaud their amazing work and look forward to future opportunities to stand in solidarity with Great Ormond Street Hospital, whether through fundraising or supply donations.
