Fire investigators have started to focus on how the Grenfell tower blaze managed to spread so quickly. The fire spread up the exterior of the building from the fourth floor in just 15 minutes.
A rainscreen system was used on Grenfell Tower that is designed to include fire-breaks at every floor and every window. Experts believe that this may have failed with the void between the aluminium panels and building fabric that acted like a chimney to spread the fire so quickly.
This system has been used on many tower block revamps in recent years. The Government is therefore ordering checks on all buildings in the UK.
