Did You Know?

Lithium-ion batteries are the UK's #1 fastest-growing fire risk in residential, commercial, and industrial areas. The Volthub™ aims to combat this growing issue, with a unit that has all the features you need to safely charge & store your li-ion batteries on site.

Power Cut-Off

Li-ion batteries have a much higher chance of going into thermal runaway when they reach higher than 60°C, the Volthub™ features a critical temperature cut-off that cuts the power to all 16 lockers if the internal temperature of any locker exceeds 60°C. This means that the fan will continue to run and ventilate the unit, reducing the internal temperature below the 60 degree mark. Once this has been achieved, charging will automatically resume.

Ventilation

In addition to the small slotted vents against each locker, a forced ventilation system has been applied to the Volthub™ where an internal fan activates at 20°C to maintain a suitable charging environment. This ensures that batteries are kept at their optimum charging temperature and proactively keeps them cool, thus reducing any risk whilst increasing the charging efficiency. The fan offers a hygrothermal performance that responds to an internal enclosure temperature of the aforementioned 20 degree mark, or 50% relative humidity inside the unit.

Isolator Switch

Used to power the volthub™, the isolator switch is used to turn the power on and off whilst allowing all other internal control systems to remain functional and fully-automatic.

Maneuverability

The x4 castor wheels on the underside of the Volthub™, in addition to it's welded handles allows easy mobility for the Volthub™. Furthermore the unit can be moved via crane or forklift and has been designed to IP rating IP55, so it can be placed internally and externally, meaning when placed externally there is the increased isolation of any potential fires.

Compartments

The Volthub™ features 16 spacious lockers individually separated, and has 32 RCD protected sockets between them which keep batteries charging safely whether it be smaller devices to large cordless tools. A robust build throughout and it's strong security doors provides peace of mind from theft and damages.

Lithium-ion batteries are sensitive to sub-zero charging conditions, where charging below 0°C can cause irreparable damage to the batteries. Most battery chargers prevent charging in these lower temperatures, and so a thermostatic heater raises the internal enclosure temperature +1°C to increase charging productivity & efficiency.

The Volthub™ has a built-in fire suppression and alert system that operates without any connection to mains electricity. Even when there is no supply to the unit, the fire suppression, alarm, smoke detector, and unique GSM text alert system will continue to function. Thus, even when you are not charging batteries, there remains a proactive solution to store them.

The unit's alarm is both visual and audible, properly alerting you or persons nearby that there is a fire inside the unit and that contact should be made with emergency services. This alarm is also designed to trigger if there is a fault with any of the unit's emergency electrical system.

A certified fire extinguishant, selected specifically to deal with fires caused by lithium-ion batteries/devices is a localised suppressant inside the unit which deals directly with the fire should one instigate. It brings instantaneous cooling and helps to contain & isolate the fire to the single locker/compartment, reducing the risk of thermal propagation. The suppression is fully biodegradable and all waste is contained within the bunded sump of the Volthub™.

Finally, a GSM phone & text alert is initiated once any off-gases or smoke is detected or if the fire suppression system is activated. The GSM can alert up to 3 pre-programmed mobile numbers by text and phone call, that there is a fire inside the Volthub™, allowing you to promptly deal with the fire (if possible) and call emergency services.
