The Budget: More schools and pinch point funding

Philip Hammond confirmed in his March Budget that an extra £536m will be pumped into new schools and maintaining existing schools in England. Furthermore, the Government has agreed to a one-off payment of £320m for 140 new free schools on top of the 500 schools that has been pledged for new-build by 2020. A further £226m will be released for school maintenance, taking total investment in school condition to over the £10bm mark. The Treasury has also confirmed that an extra £220m will be spent on improving UK roads with the aim to tackle congestion. The focus pinch points will be in the North and on the M25.   More details of individual schedules will be announced by the Department of Transport shortly.
