Government Allocates £1.2bn on Road Funding
Last week, the Government published information on how much funding councils will receive for the next financial year in respect to the £1.2bn local roads funding, and what the funding will be spent on. The Transport Minister, Andrew Jones, has tied the funding into the country’s economic plan.  He advised that the aim was to relieve congestion, and provide important upgrades to ensure that roads are fit for the future. From the £1.2bn funding for 2017-18, £1bn will be allocated to local highway authorities in England (outside of London) to improve the condition of Local Authority highways and a further £70m will be set aside for repairing potholes.  Local Highway Authorities will be invited to compete for funding to help repair and maintain local highway infrastructure for £75m and a further £75m set aside as an incentive to reward councils who demonstrate the “value” of their roads.
