The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) have warned that the construction industry could lose almost 200,000 EU workers post-Brexit should Britain no longer belong to the single market. Since this would put some of the country’s biggest infrastructure and construction projects under threat, they are calling for the Government to put interim transitional arrangements in place to avoid this plunge. Latest RICS figures show that 8% of the UK’s construction workers are EU nationals.
Thirty per cent of construction professionals surveyed reported that the hiring of non-UK workers was vital to the success of their business. The companies affected are predominately those working on big projects based in the South-East.
