The Complete Guide to RollOne Rollable Temporary Site Fencing
How a rollable net kit is changing the way UK contractors deploy and manage temporary site perimeters.
What is RollOne temporary site fencing?
RollOne is a rollable temporary site fencing kit: a 15-metre run of high-visibility polyethylene net pre-threaded onto six recycled PVC poles, stored and transported as a single compact roll, and deployed by one operative without tools.
Traditional temporary site fencing means galvanised steel mesh panels. Each panel is roughly 3.5 metres wide and 2 metres tall, weighs around 17kg, and needs to be lifted, carried, and coupled to the next one. A 105-metre site perimeter means 30 panels, 510kg of steel, and 14 cubic metres of vehicle space, before a single metre is standing.
RollOne covers the same 105-metre perimeter with seven kits. Total weight: 84kg. Total storage volume: 0.7 cubic metres. One operative. No couplers. No tools. The entire 15-metre run unrolls in minutes as a single unit.
It is not a loose mesh roll pinned to the ground with stakes. The poles, clips, and net are integrated into a single roll that deploys as a self-standing fence. That distinction matters: this is a structured site barrier, not a length of orange plastic mesh.
Why choose RollOne
Eight reasons UK contractors are switching from traditional steel panel systems.
Saving time and diesel fuel. Time saving in assembly and manpower.
Handled by a single employee. Unrolled and rolled in a short time.
Takes up little space in storage and transport.
Makes the image of the construction site tidy and efficient.
Accidental impacts and atmospheric agents have no effect. Windproof.
Doesn't break, doesn't fade, never a source of danger. Can be crossed in case of emergency.
Bends but doesn't break and returns to the initial vertical position.
Respect for the environment. Use of recycled materials. Reusable across multiple projects.
How it works: from roll to standing perimeter
The RollOne kit integrates every component of a temporary fence run into a single roll. There are no loose parts to assemble and no separate delivery of posts, panels, and footings. The roll contains the net, the poles, and all the hardware needed to form a taut, standing fence line.
Position the roll at the start of the run
One operative carries the roll to the start point. The kit is compact enough to be carried by hand or moved with a sack truck.
Anchor the first pole
Slide the first pole into a rubber base (ROLAC1) on hard standings, or drive a ground stake (ROLAC2) into soil or unpaved ground. Footings are ordered separately, confirm your ground type before the kit arrives on site.
Unroll along the perimeter line
As the kit unrolls, poles drop into position at regular intervals. The net tensioning hooks keep the net taut between poles as the run extends. No manual threading or post-by-post assembly required.
Secure each pole into its footing
Each pole slides into its base or stake as the operative advances along the line. The reflective tape on each pole is pre-fitted, no separate fixing required.
Connect additional kits for longer runs
Use the pole splicing clips supplied with each kit to join the end pole of one kit to the start pole of the next. Kits are infinitely connectable, there is no maximum run length. Over 500 metres of fencing can be transported on a single vehicle body.
Retrieval is the same process in reverse. Release poles from their footings, roll the net back onto the poles, and the kit is ready for transport and reuse on the next project. No panel stacking, no coupler sorting, no crane time.
RollOne vs traditional steel panel fencing
Most UK contractors default to steel mesh panel systems because that is what the hire market has supplied for decades. The panel system works, but it carries operational costs that are rarely costed directly against the fencing specification. The comparison below uses verified figures for a 105-metre perimeter.
| Factor | Traditional steel panels | RollOne kit |
|---|---|---|
| Total weight (105m) | 510 kg | 84 kg |
| Storage volume (105m) | 14 m³ | 0.7 m³ |
| Operatives to deploy | 2 minimum | 1 |
| Tools required | Couplers, lifting | None |
| Vehicle payload impact | High, dedicated transport | Minimal, shares vehicle body |
| Repositioning time | Full crew, full process | One operative, minutes |
| Wind behaviour | Rigid, can topple under load | Flexes and returns to vertical |
| Reusable across projects | Yes, with hire return | Yes, owned asset, no hire cost |
| Anti-climb / vehicle exclusion | Yes | Not suitable |
| Material | Galvanised steel | Recycled PVC and polyethylene |
The weight and volume figures are not marketing claims, they are the manufacturer's verified data for a 2-metre high, 105-metre perimeter. Six times lighter and twenty times less bulky is the direct output of using a polyethylene net on recycled PVC poles versus galvanised steel panels with rubber block feet.

When to specify RollOne, and when not to
RollOne is a demarcation and pedestrian barrier fence. It is the right specification for a wide range of UK construction and civils applications, but it has clear limits that any site manager or CDM coordinator needs to understand before specifying it.
CDM 2015 and temporary site fencing
The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 require principal contractors to take reasonable steps to prevent unauthorised access to construction sites. Temporary perimeter fencing is one of the primary physical controls used to discharge that duty. The type of fencing specified must be proportionate to the risk identified in the site-specific risk assessment. RollOne is suitable where the risk assessment identifies demarcation, pedestrian separation, and perimeter visibility as the primary requirements. Where the assessment identifies a need for anti-climb, vehicle exclusion, or physical containment, a rigid steel panel system must be specified instead. CDM coordinators and site managers should confirm the appropriate fencing type against the site risk assessment before ordering.
Specify RollOne when:
- The perimeter changes position regularly as groundwork or civils work progresses
- Single-operative deployment is a priority due to labour allocation or programme
- Vehicle payload or yard storage space is constrained
- The site operates across multiple locations and fencing needs to move between them
- The risk assessment identifies demarcation and pedestrian separation as the primary requirement
- Roadworks and highway maintenance sites requiring a lightweight, visible perimeter barrier
- Events, public realm works, and streetworks requiring temporary pedestrian guidance
- Contractors with ESG or sustainability procurement requirements for site equipment
Do not specify RollOne when:
RollOne is not suitable for vehicle exclusion zones, anti-climb security perimeters, or any application where a rigid physical barrier is required by the site risk assessment. Where CDM 2015 or the site-specific risk assessment identifies a requirement for a solid, anti-climb, or vehicle-rated barrier, a steel panel system must be used. Never substitute a demarcation net fence for a physical containment system.

What is included in each kit
Each RollOne kit is a complete, self-contained fencing unit. The roll contains every component needed to form a standing 15-metre fence run. The only items not included are the footings, rubber bases or ground stakes, which are ordered separately depending on ground conditions.
15m polyethylene net
High-strength, UV-stabilised polyethylene mesh. Resistant to tearing, weathering, and UV degradation. High-visibility red for site safety.
6 recycled PVC poles
High-strength poles manufactured from recycled PVC. Impact-resistant, weather-resistant, and flexible under load, they bend rather than snap or topple.
Pole splicing clips
Allow multiple kits to be connected end to end for any perimeter length. No tools required. Included with every kit.
Net tensioning hooks
Keep the net taut between poles as the run is deployed. Nylon construction for durability and consistent tensioning across the full 15-metre run.
Reflective tape on each pole
Pre-fitted to every pole. Increases visibility on active roadworks and in low-light conditions without any additional fixing or accessory.
Pole head caps
Cap each pole top cleanly, protecting the pole section and providing a mounting point for the optional solar flashing light accessory.
Footings are not included. Order rubber bases (ROLAC1) for hard standings, concrete, and tarmac, or ground stakes (ROLAC2) for soil, grass, and unpaved ground. Confirm your footing requirement before the kit arrives on site.
Accessories and spare parts
Every RollOne kit is supplied complete with net and poles. Additional footings and accessories are available on request to suit your ground conditions and project requirements.

360-degree solar LED warning light, IP65 rated, mounts directly onto the pole cap. Suitable for night-shift and low-light roadworks.
Choosing between 2m and 1.1m heights
RollOne is available in two heights. The choice is straightforward when matched to the application and the site risk assessment.
| Height | SKU | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 2 metres | ROL20015RR | Full-height construction site perimeters, CDM 2015 site boundaries, roadworks on active carriageways, civils and utilities projects, any application requiring a full 2-metre demarcation barrier |
| 1.1 metres | ROL11015RG | Pedestrian guidance on public realm and streetworks, lower-risk demarcation within a site compound, events and outdoor public works, internal site zone separation |
Both heights cover 15 metres per kit and include six poles, with identical connectivity and deployment. The 1.1m kit is not a substitute for the 2m kit on site perimeters where the risk assessment requires full-height fencing, match the height to the hazard, not to cost.
The logistics case: weight, volume, and fuel
The operational argument for RollOne is most clearly made in logistics terms. Site managers and plant managers deal with vehicle payload limits, yard storage constraints, and fuel costs on every project. Temporary fencing rarely appears on the cost reduction list, but the numbers are significant.
Payload comparison for a 105-metre perimeter
A standard flatbed or dropside van operating on a UK construction site carries a payload of around 1,000 to 1,200kg. Thirty steel panels for a 105-metre perimeter weigh 510kg, more than 40% of a typical van payload, before any other materials or equipment. Seven RollOne kits covering the same perimeter weigh 84kg, under 8% of that payload.
On a project requiring multiple perimeter reconfigurations, the fuel saving across the programme is measurable. On a multi-site operation where fencing moves between locations, the van space freed by switching to RollOne can absorb other materials that would otherwise require an additional vehicle run.
500 metres on a single vehicle body
The RollOne manufacturer has demonstrated that over 500 metres of fencing, 33 kits, can be transported on a single standard flatbed body. The equivalent steel panel system for 500 metres would require multiple lorry loads. For highways and utilities contractors managing long-run roadworks, this is not a marginal saving.
Yard storage
Steel panels require a dedicated compound or storage area with sufficient floor space and hard standing for stacking. A full stock of RollOne kits stores in a fraction of the space, freeing yard area for materials and plant.
Recycled materials and reusability
The RollOne kit is manufactured from recycled materials and designed for repeated reuse across multiple projects. Both are verifiable product characteristics, not marketing language.
The PVC poles are manufactured from recycled PVC. The polyethylene net is reusable and resistant to UV degradation and weathering under UK site conditions. The complete kit is designed to be deployed, retrieved, cleaned, re-rolled, and deployed again across its service life.
- PVC poles manufactured from recycled PVC material
- Polyethylene net designed for repeated deployment across multiple projects
- No single-use packaging or consumable components in the standard kit
- Individual spare parts available, so worn components replace without discarding the full kit
- Reusable rubber bases and ground stakes reduce single-use waste on site
- Six times lighter than steel panel systems, reducing vehicle fuel consumption per deployment
- Contributes to ESG procurement reporting and project sustainability metrics
Individual components including poles, tensioning hooks, splicing clips, reflective bands, and caps are available as spare parts, so wear items can be replaced without discarding the full kit. This extends the working life of the kit and reduces the volume of site waste generated over a project programme.
For contractors operating under contracts with ESG reporting requirements, or projects targeting sustainability credentials, RollOne's recycled material construction and reusable format contribute to procurement sustainability metrics in a way that single-use or hire-and-return steel panel systems do not. CMT Group's EDGE procurement portal also tracks CO2 impact per order, giving sustainability-focused procurement teams full visibility of their site equipment footprint.
