What Is Metatarsal protection?

Working in the construction industry, there are many health and safety hazards. This is due to the heavy duty equipment used, or any drops and falls. Dropping something as small as a hammer could break your foot.

Metatarsal foot protection is designed to prevent or reduce injuries when the toe or the metatarsal bones are exposed to drop hazards. These are 5 long bones found at the top of the foot near the toes and between the tarsal bones. It is essential this part of the body is protected, as they are vulnerable to rolling or falling objects. This is because this part of the body has almost no flesh to protect itself, and it extends further beyond the body line.

Protecting the Metatarsal Bones:

Use external protection in your shoes, by adding a flap to cover your laces, as this is the thinnest part of your shoe. Without a flap, you are at higher risk of a breakage due to the thin layers providing little protection.

Use internal protection by supplying a work boot which provides a pad in the tongue. This method is known to be higher performing due to the manufacturing quality and thicker layer. It also provides more comfort for you and your colleagues.

Investing in Safety:

At CMT, we sell Metatarsal Protection safety boots in our MAX Range (as above). The boot provides internal protection for optimum safety, as we care for your health and safety on site. Find our MAX Safety Boot online now under the code MX18, our use the link below:
