Intro spotlight: Green Rhino
Green Rhino has pioneered the use of smart polymer technology for spill control across construction and utilities.
The innovative EnviroPad solves the following:
- Flooded trays filled with oily rainwater
- Secondary overflow and spill risk
- Site workers emptying contaminated water onto the ground
- Site workers getting oily water on their work clothes
In short, spill trays of all types don’t prevent pollution, they just delay it. Site workers don’t want to handle them so they get left behind when equipment is moved.
The EnviroPad was designed to overcome these problems.
Smart Polymer Technology
Green Rhino has pioneered the use of smart polymers to neutralise hydrocarbons. Built into the EnviroPad, their proprietary blend of smart polymers turns hydrocarbons into solid rubber. In this state, the pollutants can’t leak out – even under pressure – and won’t be washed out by rainfall.
EnviroPad will work with all the hydrocarbons likely to be encountered on a construction site or roadside works including petrol, diesel, engine oil, lubricating oil, hydraulic fluid and transformer liquid. It will even work with Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO)
Spill pads, mats and tray are also likely to get very dirty which can reduce their effectiveness. Because EnviroPad doesn’t leak, it can be jet washed or hosed clean.
EnviroPad has no special waste requirements and can be disposed of in your standard COSHH bins.

Reduced waste generation
When you dispose of other spill control products, you're not only disposing of the item itself, but also the contaminated water pooled inside.
Because Green Rhino smart polymer products – EnviroPad, Oil Retention Pillows and Oil Retention Booms – trap contaminants inside, you can allow them to drain before you dispose of them. This reduces the volume of waste you generate and therefore the costs of waste disposal.
Smart polymer products retain more oil than alternative solutions too – which means they last longer. This in turn means that you will be disposing of fewer spent items, further reducing your environmental impact.
