Nutrition and Hydration Week 17th - 23rd March 2025
Nutrition and Hydration week is an annual event with the global objective to re-inforce, focus, and create engagement to promote nutrition and hydration for the health and wellbeing of every individual.
Did you know that workers in physically demanding jobs, like those on construction sites, can lose up to 2 -3 litres of water per hour in extreme conditions?
A standard 8 hour shift on a warm Spring or Summer day, combined with the safety apparel constuction workers wear, can be an extreme trigger for dehydration, leading to serious consequences such as fatigue, dizziness and even heatstoke.
Recognising the signs of dehydration
- Dry mouth / skin / lips
- Dizziness / lightheadedness
- Headaches
- Muscle cramps/ weakness
- Fatigue or a sluggish feeling
- Infrequent urination
By educating your workforce both on and off site on the signs of dehydration, and the importance of consist water intake, you can significantly reduce the risk of impacting the teams safety and performance.
Keeping your crew hydrated is essential in maintaining focus, energy levels and the overall jobsite safety.
How can you ensure the safety of your workforce?
- Providing lightweight, reusable waterbottles that workers can carry around with them.
- Water points at various locations of the site, within close proximity to all workers to allow easy access.
