No Falls Week 2026: the Right Fall Arrest Kit For Every Trade

Every year, the same statistics come back. Falls from height remain the single leading cause of workplace fatalities in the UK. In 2024/25, 35 workers lost their lives after falling at work. Almost 5,000 more were reported injured. Behind every one of those numbers is a person, a family, and a site team that will not forget what happened.

No Falls Week, run by the No Falls Foundation, takes place from 18 to 22 May 2026. At CMT Group, we think the best way to mark it is to be straightforward about something that causes more confusion than it should: which fall arrest kit do you actually need, and for which job? Using the wrong kit for the task is a compliance failure. In a fall event, it can be the difference between a safe arrest and a fatality.

Why the right kit for the right trade is not optional

A full body harness and a lanyard are not interchangeable components. Every fall protection system is designed around a specific set of anchor points, working positions, and movement patterns. A scaffolder connecting to a scaffold tube has different requirements from a roofer moving up a pitched surface, and both are different again from a steel erector transferring between anchor points on a structural frame.

The Working at Height Regulations 2005 require that equipment is suitable for the task, correctly maintained, and used by trained operatives. That means specifying by application, not by price or availability.

Scaffolders: the Scaffolder Fall Arrest Kit

What makes it different

The Scaffolder Fall Arrest Kit is built around one hardware detail that most generic harness kits miss entirely: the lanyard terminates in steel scaffold hooks that clip directly onto scaffold tubes without adaptors. The kit includes a full body harness with a rear dorsal D-ring and a front sternal D-ring, a 1.8m energy absorbing webbing lanyard, and a jute carry bag. Certified to EN361:2002, EN354:2002, and EN355:2002 as a matched, compatible system.

Who it is for

Trained scaffolders erecting and dismantling tube and fitting scaffold on commercial, residential, civil, and infrastructure projects where the method statement specifies a fall arrest system as a control measure.

Roofers: the Roofer Fall Arrest Kit

What makes it different

A fixed-length lanyard does not give a roofer working across a pitched surface the range of movement the task requires. The Roofer Fall Arrest Kit solves this with a guided type fall arrester running on a 10m kernmantle rope anchorage line. The arrester travels freely with the operative and locks instantly in a fall. The kit includes a full body harness, the guided fall arrester with integrated energy absorber, the 10m rope line, a steel screw-locking karabiner, and a jute carry bag. Certified to EN361:2002, EN354:2002, and EN355:2002.

Who it is for

Trained roofers and roofing contractors working on pitched or flat roofs where guardrails are not practicable. Domestic and commercial roofing, solar panel installation, roof light work, and flat roof maintenance.

Steel erectors: the Crane Boom Fall Arrest Kit

What makes it different

On a structural steel frame or crane boom, operatives move between anchor points repeatedly throughout the working day. The Crane Boom Fall Arrest Kit addresses this with a forked twin-tail energy absorbing kernmantle rope lanyard: one tail stays clipped to an anchor while the other transfers to the next. The operative is never unprotected. The kit includes a full body harness, a 1.5m forked energy absorbing kernmantle rope lanyard, and a backpack. Certified to EN361:2002 and EN355:2002.

Who it is for

Steel erectors, ironworkers, and operatives working on crane booms and structural steel frameworks where frequent anchor transfers are required and 100% continuous connection is specified in the method statement.

Where restraint is the right answer: the Work Restraint Kit

What makes it different

Not every working at height task requires a fall arrest system. Where the risk assessment confirms that a fall cannot occur if the system is correctly set up and used, a work restraint system is the appropriate control measure. It prevents the operative from physically reaching the fall hazard in the first place. The Work Restraint Kit contains a full body harness, a 1.5m kernmantle rope lanyard, and two EN362:2004 Class B rated steel screw karabiners.

!Important

If there is any possibility of a fall occurring, this kit is not the right choice. A fall arrest kit must be specified instead. The distinction between restraint and arrest is one of the most common sources of non-compliance on UK sites.

Who it is for

Maintenance technicians, facilities managers, and operatives working on scissor lift platforms, at roof hatches, and in defined safe zones on flat roofs where the risk assessment confirms a fall cannot occur if the system is correctly used.

The three-component rule

Under EN365 and the guidance published by the No Falls Foundation, a complete fall protection system must include three components: the body-gripping element (the harness), the fall arrest or restraint element (the lanyard or arrester), and the anchoring system. All three must carry CE marking, all three must be compatible with one another, and the user must be trained in their use.

Every kit in our range is supplied as a certified, matched system. The harness, lanyard, and connectors are tested and certified together, not assembled from separate components that may not be compatible. This is the baseline for compliance and it is where a surprising number of site kits fall short.

No Falls Week 2026: what you can do this week

No Falls Week is a practical opportunity to review the height safety equipment your teams are carrying, confirm it is correctly specified for the tasks in your method statements, check inspection records are up to date, and make sure everyone using a harness has been trained in the system they are using.

If you need to review your fall protection kits, replace equipment that has been involved in a fall arrest event, or specify the right system for a new project, our team is here to help. All four kits are available from stock with next working day delivery, and same-day delivery is available on confirmed stock. Call our team or order online before 7pm.

Falls from height are preventable. The right kit, correctly fitted, correctly anchored, and used by a trained operative, is what prevention looks like in practice.
