6 Sun Protection Tips for Construction Workers
Posted in: CMT Group Blog

According to the HSE and Cancer Research UK, outdoor workers such as construction workers who are exposed to the sun for prolonged periods are exposed to risks including skin damage and, eye damage, overheating, dehydration and most seriously, an increased chance of developing skin cancer - there are ways in which you can stay protected, here they are...

1) KEEP YOUR TOP ON

Clothing forms a protective barrier to the sun's harmful rays, tightly woven fabrics in particular.

2) WEAR A HAT OR NECK CAPE

A hat with a brim or flap that covers the ears and back of the neck protects these especially vulnerable areas. A neck cape is also a great addition to hard hats.

3) STAY IN THE SHADE

Staying in the shade isn't always possible on site but do your best to avoid the sun on your breaks.

4) USE SUN CREAM

Use high-factor sun cream throughout the day, keep a bottle on or near you or use sun safety stations throughout the site.

5) STAY HYDRATED

Make sure you drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and avoid dehydration.

6) CHECK YOUR SKIN

Check your skin regularly for any unusual marks, moles or spots. If you find that any of the marks, moles or spots are changing colour, shape or size and/or are itching or bleeding, see a doctor urgently.
