A: Megatex is NLG's proprietary abrasion-resistant material, engineered to withstand sustained contact with rough concrete, stone, and steel during rope descents. In NLG's testing, Megatex demonstrated up to 7 times greater resistance to surface abrasion than premium military-grade fabric. The practical result is a pouch that retains its structural integrity significantly longer before showing surface degradation at the seams, base, and body panel.
Q: What safety standards does this pouch meet?
A: The pouch is certified to ANSI/ISEA 121-2023, the primary international standard for dropped object prevention tethering equipment. It also meets NS 9611:2022+AC, the Norwegian standard for tool lanyards and tethering systems, and carries CE and UKCA markings. Both the pouch system and each individual internal D-ring anchor point are load tested dynamically at a 2:1 safety factor, independently verified by a third-party laboratory.
Q: What is this pouch NOT suitable for?
A: The pouch is not suitable for individual tools exceeding 5kg per internal anchor point, or for total contents exceeding the 5kg system load. It must not be used at height without tools being individually connected to the internal D-ring anchor points via rated tool lanyards. This product is not a fall arrest device.
Q: How do the four internal anchor points work for dropped object prevention?
A: Each of the four internal D-ring anchor points is independently rated to 5kg. To comply with IRATA Topic Sheet No. 31 and ANSI/ISEA 121-2023, each tool inside the pouch should be connected to its own internal D-ring via an appropriately rated tool lanyard. This means that if the pouch opens unexpectedly, or inverts during descent, each tool is independently secured and cannot drop beyond the length of its lanyard.
Q: Can I open the pouch with one hand while in harness on a rope?
A: Yes. The quick-cinch closure system is designed for one-handed operation. To open, pull the green webbing loop away from the body. To close, pull the clear plastic toggle loop across the body to cinch it shut. Neither action requires two hands. The sleeve can also be rolled down the side of the pouch if additional access to the interior is needed.
Q: What is the external daisy chain rated to and how is it used?
A: The external daisy chain provides load-rated external attachment points on the outside of the pouch body. It is used for attaching additional items, tools, or lanyards externally, increasing carrying capacity without opening the main closure. Verify the external daisy chain max load rating before attaching items and do not exceed this limit.
Q: How does the tapered D profile compare to a standard cylindrical rope access bag?
A: A cylindrical bag of equal height has a circular cross-section that rolls away from the harness during ascent and descent, creating drag and shifting load to one side. The tapered D profile has a flat rear panel that sits flush against the harness or body, reducing movement during ascent and keeping the centre of gravity closer to the operative. The D shape also provides greater internal volume than an equivalent-height cylinder, and the wider opening improves internal visibility for locating tools quickly.
Q: What should I do if the pouch has been dropped or impacted?
A: Quarantine the pouch immediately. Inspect the Megatex body for cuts, tears, or abrasion-through at the seams and base panel. Check all four internal D-rings and the external D-ring for deformation. Test the Quick Connect buckle and closure system. Scan the NLG ID tag to log the event and access the inspection checklist. Do not return the pouch to service until a competent person has completed and recorded the full inspection.
