How to use

Step 1: Confirm the power supply is 110V site supply or CTE transformer output before connecting. This machine must not be connected to a standard 230V domestic socket.

Step 2: Fit the correct disc for the task. Check the disc is rated for a minimum of 11,000rpm and is no larger than 115mm (4.5") in diameter with a 22.23mm bore. Secure using the supplied spanner and locking flange. Do not overtighten.

Step 3: Fit the side handle into the gear housing at the 20-degree ergonomic position. Always use the side handle, never operate the grinder one-handed without it fitted.

Step 4: Connect to the 110V supply. Press and release the switch before beginning work to confirm the anti-restart function is active and the soft start ramp-up operates correctly.

Step 5: Engage the lock-on switch for sustained cutting or grinding runs. Release the lock-on before setting the tool down at any point during use.

Step 6: Inspect the disc before each use for cracks, chips, or delamination. A damaged disc must be replaced before the machine is operated.

Step 7: Disconnect from the power supply before changing discs. Use the spindle lock and supplied spanner, never use the motor to hold the spindle.

Common mistakes

• Connecting to 230V supply: The GA4530R/1 operates on 110V only. Connecting to a standard 230V domestic socket will damage the motor immediately and voids the warranty. A yellow 110V industrial plug is fitted as standard.

• Using a disc rated below 11,000rpm: The no-load speed is 11,000rpm. A disc rated below this speed will fail structurally under load, creating a serious ejection hazard.

• Operating without the side handle: The side handle is not optional. Without it, start-up torque and disc contact forces cannot be controlled safely, increasing the risk of disc breakage and hand injury.

• Leaving the lock-on engaged when setting the tool down: A grinder set down with the lock-on active will continue spinning freely on the workbench. Always disengage before releasing the tool.

• Continuing to use a cracked or chipped disc: A damaged abrasive disc can shatter at operating speed. Inspect before every use and replace at the first sign of damage.

Safety

The GA4530R/1 operates at 11,000rpm no-load speed. All discs and wheels fitted must be rated at or above this speed and must not exceed 115mm (4.5") diameter. Appropriate PPE is mandatory: safety glasses or a full face shield, hearing protection, a dust mask rated for the material being cut, and cut-resistant gloves. The anti-restart function is a safety feature, not a substitute for correct isolation procedure, always disconnect from supply before changing discs or leaving the tool unattended. Operate in accordance with PUWER 1998 and any site-specific tool control requirements under CDM 2015. Vibration exposure is 7.5 m/sec² (K factor 1.5 m/sec²), monitor daily exposure against the EAV and ELV limits set under the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005.

Maintenance

Blow out the ventilation slots and gear housing vents with dry compressed air after each shift to prevent grinding dust build-up in the motor. Inspect the power lead and plug for damage before each use, replace if the cable sheath is cut, abraded, or the plug is cracked. Check the gear housing and spindle for play or roughness periodically; any change in running noise or vibration pattern indicates internal wear requiring service.
