Q: What are the three load ratings and what does each one govern?
A: The holster has three independent load ratings. First, 0.5kg: the maximum weight of a tool placed inside the holster and connected to the built-in ratchet lanyard. Second, 5kg each: the maximum load that can be connected to either of the two external orange D-ring anchor points via an external lanyard. Third, 0.5kg again: the maximum load the built-in ratchet lanyard can hold independently. These three ratings apply simultaneously and to different components of the holster system, the 5kg external anchor rating does not apply to the holster body or the internal lanyard.
Q: How does the Magnox magnetic plate work?
A: The Magnox plate is a permanent magnet integrated into the inside of the holster body. When a ferromagnetic tool (steel, iron, or magnetic alloy) is placed inside the holster, the magnet attracts and holds the tool surface regardless of the holster's orientation. This means the tool remains inside the holster even when the holster mouth faces downward, a situation that occurs during bending, leaning, and overhead work. To remove the tool, the operative deliberately pulls it against the magnetic force. Non-ferromagnetic materials such as aluminium, most plastics, and non-magnetic stainless steel will not engage with the plate.
Q: What is the difference between the built-in ratchet lanyard and a standard retractable?
A: A standard spring-return retractable constantly pulls the cable back toward the reel, creating continuous tension against the operative's hand during tool use. The built-in lanyard in this holster uses a ratchet mechanism: the cable extends to the required length, clicks and holds at that position, and stays there without spring tension until the operative releases the ratchet. This means the tool can be used at a set distance from the holster without the lanyard pulling it back throughout the task — an important advantage for precision and repetitive hand tool work.
Q: What certifications does this holster carry?
A: Certified to ANSI/ISEA 121-2023, NS 9611:2022+AC, CE and UKCA, dynamically load tested at a 2:1 safety factor. Each holster carries a unique serial number with NLG ID compatibility.
Q: What is this not suitable for?
A: It must not be used as a personal fall arrest system, fall restraint, or work positioning device. Tools exceeding 0.5kg must not be placed inside the holster. External lanyards exceeding 5kg must not be connected to the D-ring anchor points. Lanyards longer than 200cm must not be used with the external anchors. After any dynamic load event involving the holster, remove from service for formal inspection.
Q: What tools will the Magnox plate not hold?
A: The magnetic plate only engages ferromagnetic materials. Aluminium screwdrivers, aluminium wrenches, most plastic and composite-handled tools, non-magnetic stainless steel tools, and any tool with a non-ferromagnetic body will not be held by the Magnox plate. The built-in lanyard must be used as the primary tether for all tools, the magnetic plate provides secondary retention for compatible tools, not the sole retention mechanism.
Q: How do the Quick Connect clips attach to a belt or harness?
A: The two Quick Connect clips on the rear of the holster press onto the belt webbing or harness strap in a single action and lock into position. To remove, press the release tabs on each clip simultaneously. They are compatible with the NLG Superlight Safety Tool Belt and standard harness webbing.
