Who is this for

How to use

Step 1: Confirm the spanner's total weight does not exceed 1kg before attaching the kit. Most professional combination spanners up to approximately 27mm fall within this limit, but verify for larger sizes.

Step 2: Thread the Tether Ring™ through the ring end of the spanner. The ring sits inside the closed box end and cannot pull free once the lanyard is loaded.

Step 3: Connect one Quick Clip of the Extended Bungee Lanyard to the Tether Ring. Press the clip open with one hand, engage the ring, and release to close.

Step 4: Connect the second Quick Clip to the chosen anchor point: a wrist band, belt loop, or rated structural anchor point. Confirm the clip is fully closed before beginning work.

Step 5: Check that the 2m lanyard reach is appropriate for the working distance and that the spanner can reach the work position without the tether going fully taut.

Step 6: Scan the NLG ID tag system before beginning work to confirm the kit is within its inspection interval and that all records are current.

Common mistakes

• Using the kit for spanners above 1kg: Larger scaffold spanners and heavy combination spanners in the 30mm-plus range may exceed the 1kg system limit. Weigh the specific spanner before deploying this kit, particularly for larger sizes.

• Threading the Tether Ring through an open-ended jaw: The ring only creates a secure attachment point when threaded through the closed ring end of the spanner. An open-ended spanner has no suitable hole and is not compatible with this kit.

• Running the lanyard too short for the task: The 2m extended reach exists precisely for bag work and overhead applications. If the anchor point is positioned too close to the work, the lanyard will be under constant tension rather than hanging freely, which puts continuous stress on the Tether Ring attachment and the anchor.

• Failing to close the Quick Clips fully: The Dual Quick Clips require a firm press and release to close correctly. A partially closed clip can disengage under the vibration and movement of active tool use. Check each clip manually before working.

• Continuing to use a kit after a drop event: Even a short drop onto a hard surface can deform the Tether Ring or stress the lanyard bungee beyond its design limits. Quarantine the full kit and inspect before returning to service.

Safety

This kit is rated to a system max load of 1kg (2.2lbs) and must not be used with spanners or other tools exceeding this weight. The Tether Ring must only be threaded through a ring or captive hole on the tool - it must not be used with open-ended spanners or any tool without a suitable hole. This kit is for tool tethering only and must never be used as a fall arrest or personal safety connection. All components should be inspected before each use and retired immediately if damage, deformation, or wear is visible. In the event of any drop or arrest, quarantine the full kit for inspection before returning to service. Equipment should be used in accordance with the Working at Height Regulations 2005 and any applicable site dropped object prevention policy.

Maintenance

Inspect the Tether Ring for deformation, wear at the ring surface, and any cracking or corrosion before each use. Check both Quick Clips open, close, and spring cleanly under manual test. Inspect the bungee lanyard body for fraying, cuts, or deterioration of the cord. Clean with mild soap and water only. Store away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Scan the NLG ID tag system to log inspections and access the NLG Inspection Checklist. Retire any component showing wear or damage and replace with the equivalent NLG-rated item before returning the kit to service.
