Cut-Resistant Gloves: TDM Level D Certified for Construction and Fabrication
Hand injuries account for a significant proportion of UK site accidents reported to the HSE each year. The correct glove specification starts with understanding TDM cut resistance, not the older Coupe rotating blade scale, but the ISO 13997 straight-blade test that produces the A to F rating on modern EN388 certified gloves. Both gloves below are rated TDM Level D (15 Newtons) under EN388:2016+A1:2018. The decision between them is simple: how wet is the task?
AGMAK
armourU Cut Resistant Sandy Nitrile Palm Coated Gloves, TDM Level D

- Sandy nitrile palm coating, grip in dry, oily, and greasy conditions
- Touchscreen compatible, oil-resistant, water-repellent treatment
- CE and UKCA marked
AGJAN
armourU Cut Resistant Sandy Nitrile Fully Coated Gloves, Waterproof TDM Level D
- EN388:2016+A1:2018 rated 4X43D, same TDM Level D as AGMAK
- Fully coated sandy nitrile, seals entire hand including knuckles and back
- Waterproof for wet concrete, drainage, groundwork, and saturated environments
- Touchscreen compatible
Glove Comparison: AGMAK vs AGJAN
| Feature | AGMAK, Palm Coated | AGJAN, Fully Coated |
|---|---|---|
| Coating coverage | Palm and fingertips only | Full hand, fingertip to cuff |
| Palm-coated gloves leave the knuckles and back of the hand as exposed knitted liner. In wet conditions, that liner absorbs moisture. Fully coated seals the entire hand surface. | ||

Eye Protection, Safety Glasses
Safety Glasses: EN166 FTKN, Metal-Free, Optical Class 1, Three Products, Three Environments
EN166 is the UK and European standard for personal eye protection. The FTKN marking on the products below is not a marketing claim, it is the result of four independent performance tests: F (low-energy impact at 45 m/s), T (hot particle resistance), K (anti-scratch coating to the standard), and N (anti-fog coating to the standard). All three glasses below carry EN166 FTKN and EN170 2C-1.2 at optical class 1, with permanent anti-fog and anti-scratch coatings on both sides of the lens. The differences between them are lens type and frame construction.

Eye Protection, Safety Goggles
Safety Goggles: EN166 3 4 5 BTKN, When Glasses Are Not Enough
When the task involves liquid splash, fine dust, or airborne gas, open-frame safety glasses cannot provide the protection required. EN166 field codes 3, 4, and 5 are independently tested protections: code 3 for liquid droplets and splashes, code 4 for large dust particles, code 5 for gas and fine dust. Achieving all three requires a sealed goggle construction, open-frame spectacles cannot earn these codes regardless of lens quality. Both goggles below carry EN166 3 4 5 BTKN, including B-rated medium energy impact at 120 m/s, significantly higher than the F-rated 45 m/s of safety glasses.
AEYWEI
armourU Weisshorn Safety Goggles, Anti-Fog Wide Vision EN166
- EN166 3 4 5 BTKN, splash, large dust, gas protection with B-rated impact

- Panoramic lens for wider peripheral field of vision in active environments
- Tilt-hinge headband, pivots independently of frame for extended wear; PVC seal; 101g
Goggles Comparison: Weisshorn vs Matterhorn
| Feature | Weisshorn (AEYWEI) | Matterhorn (AEYMAT) |
|---|---|---|
| EN166 rating | 3 4 5 BTKN | 3 4 5 BTKN |
| Impact rating | B, 120 m/s | B, 120 m/s |
| Liquid splash (code 3) | ✓ | ✓ |
| Large dust (code 4) | ✓ | ✓ |
| Gas and fine dust (code 5) | ✓ | ✓ |
| Lens type | Wide vision | Panoramic |
| The panoramic lens on the Matterhorn extends the lateral field of vision, reducing peripheral blind spots. In environments where awareness of surrounding plant and moving loads is a safety factor, the wider aperture is an active benefit. The Weisshorn wide vision lens is smaller but still provides good coverage for most applications. | ||
| Seal material | Flexible TPE | PVC |
| Headband type | Standard adjustable | Tilt-hinge adjustable |
| The Matterhorn's tilt-hinge allows the headband to pivot independently of the goggle frame during head movement and bending. This prevents the seal from lifting during physical activity and reduces comfort-driven removal across a long shift. | ||
| Weight | 86g | 101g |
| Best for | Shorter tasks, lighter preference | Extended all-day wear, wide peripheral visibility |

Hearing Protection
Ear Defenders: Three SNR Levels, Two Formats, Memory Foam, Matched to Noise Level
Under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005, hearing protection is mandatory at 85 dB(A). The single most common specification error is defaulting to the highest available SNR regardless of measured noise level, over-attenuation at lower noise levels reduces awareness of safety-critical signals such as reversing alarms and verbal warnings. SNR selection must be based on the results of a competent noise risk assessment, with the HSE correction factor applied. The three products below cover SNR 30, 32, and 37 across two headband formats, with memory foam ear cushions throughout for consistent acoustic seal and all-day wearing compliance.

| Quarrying and rock breaking | 100–115 dB(A) | El Capitan SNR 37 | Maximum attenuation required |
| Airport ground operations | 95–115 dB(A) | El Capitan SNR 37 | Jet blast and engine noise consistently above 100 dB |
| Heavy demolition and pneumatic breaking | 100–115 dB(A) | El Capitan SNR 37 | Sustained high-frequency noise above 100 dB |
| Paper mills and heavy manufacturing | 95–110 dB(A) | El Capitan SNR 37 | Continuous machinery noise in high-frequency range |
| Construction with heavy machinery | 90–100 dB(A) | Half Dome SNR 32 | SNR 32 brings ear exposure below 85 dB(A) with HSE correction |
| Metalworking and fabrication | 90–100 dB(A) | Half Dome SNR 32 | Lighter at 280g for extended workshop shifts |
| Woodworking and sawmill | 90–100 dB(A) | Half Dome SNR 32 | High-frequency dust saw noise covered by H=36dB |
| Construction under hard hat policy | 85–100 dB(A) | Hornelen SNR 30 Neckband | Neckband arc clears crown, no helmet conflict |
| Welding with face shield | 85–100 dB(A) | Hornelen SNR 30 Neckband | Neckband routes below visor, compatible with welding helmets |
| Highway maintenance with helmet | 90–100 dB(A) | Hornelen SNR 30 Neckband | Behind-the-neck format works under all EN 397 safety helmets |
Always base hearing protection selection on a measured noise risk assessment. Apply the HSE real-world correction factor, subtract half the SNR from the measured noise level, to estimate actual ear exposure before confirming your specification.

Safety Helmets: EN 397 for Construction, EN 50365 and Arc Flash Rated for Electrical Environments
EN 397 is the baseline certification for industrial safety helmets in the UK. All three helmets below carry EN 397:2012+A1:2012, confirming protection against falling objects and covering optional performance characteristics including lateral deformation resistance and low-temperature rating. The critical distinction is between a standard construction helmet and an electrically insulating arc flash helmet. The Fuji is the only helmet in this range rated to EN 50365 Class 0 (electrical insulation up to 1000V AC) and GS ET 29 Class I (arc flash to 4 kA). Specifying a standard Denali in an electrical environment is not compliant with those standards.
